Once the malayalam film prodecers barely thought of making a movie that had atlest a budget of even ten crores. Gokulam Gopalan dared to make a movie that took a budget of 25 crores and the results are awesome. The film has got a collection of nearly one crore on the very first day of the release itself.
The same team of MT Vasudevan Nair, Hariharan and Mammooty which had grouped for the hit Oru Vadakan Veeragadha has once again offered the malayalis the biggest hit of the year. The gripping story that revolves around the valiant Kerala Varma Pazhassiraja of the kottayam palace, is the main highlight of the movie. The way the movie is presented, says about its success. Mammooty as Pazhassiraja has done a good job apart from Sarath Kumar, Manoj K Jayan and Padmapriya. Sarath Kumar as Edachena Kungan is an impressive character with his kind of charisma.

The fight scenes in the movie are simply superb and this is a kind of a movie that can be put on an international level. Mammooty after some fine performances in Loud Speaker and Kerala cafe, has handled the role of Pazhassiraja well who plans the fight rather than leading. Music by Ilayaraja is good, though it does not came upto the expectation. The song 'Aadhiyushasandhya poothathivide' is really fantastic with the video. Other supporting characters like Jagathy, Jagadish, Devan have all done their roles well.The cast crew also includes Suresh Krishna, Manoj K Jayan, Suman as villain, and Kaniha as the princess. Padmapriya plays a pivoted role in the movie ‘Neeli’, as a head of a tribal, who expects a brake through this.The film has successfully recreated 18th century. Art director and his crew have done great work. Unlike other films this film starts with out showing technicians name.
This incomparable movie is three hours fifteen minutes long. Quality wise the film can be compared with Hollywood movies.Applause goes to Hariharan who captained this ship. Writer M.T Vasudevan Nair is one of the key brains behind this artwork. The camera by Ramanth Shetty is classic. Sound design by Resul Pookkutty stands out.

My Big Father Movie Review

My Big Father directed by Mahesh P Sreenivasan is all about a father(Pakru) and his son (Jayaram). The director has tried his best to entertain the audiance but his effort has ended in a movie that doesn't have a clear idea what is to be presented.
The film tries a bit too hard to keep us entertained from the start to the finish. The dramatic turn of events that comes midway around, is a pointer to the fact that they have surely run out of ideas. The rest of the film is like a loose hanging appendage that looks all set to drop off any moment.

Most of the jokes in My Big Father are about being small. So we have Pakru being tossed about, shoved into suitcases, pushed into cradles and pampered with feeding bottles. There are also any number of verbal insults being hurled on him, that could be taken as jokes or as sheer tasteless attempts at humor.The film may have intended as a comedy entertainer but actually it seems to be an insult package to the father (Pakru) who is a dwarf.
If it would bring laughter to you, seeing Pakru scampering after Kaniha insisting that he be fed along with her new born baby, then this is the film for you. If you are on the other hand looking for more serious themes as social isolation in here, you are totally in the wrong place watching the wrong film.
Jayaram has done a fair job as Alby , Pakru too has handed his role quite well and so does Kanika. The supporting characters done by Suraj, Innocent, Jagathy were all good. But where the film goes down is the script which lacks naturality and dialogues. Music by Alex Paul were fair.On a whole, the film is not a must watch. But if you doesnt have any other works and have watched all the other movies, you can watch this movie once.

2012 Movie Review

2012 is a movie that has been visualled so fantastically by Roland Emmerich. The movie is about the myth regarding the end of this world in 2012 and the happenings thereafter.
This is a reminiscent of yesteryear ’80s shlock-tastic blockbusters -- total popcorn entertainment with ridiculous dialogue and impossible situations and special effects that will boggle the brain for a good two-plus hours. What's so frustrating about "2012" is that it could have been a great action movie. If the special effects team can do their jobs, certainly better writers could have been hired.
The excels in the field of animation but failed in subject. Therefore this movie can only be called a visual thriller. As with "Independence Day," "2012" is what comes of hiring legitimate actors to hawk hokum. And "2012" certainly is all cheese on wry, but it's smart within its means as a palpable, if popcorn, lesson about parental and personal responsibility.
What happens in the movie is that as the action becomes less fabulous and more repetitive over 2012's 150 minutes, the philosophical debate ratchets up.In the final forty-five minutes the movie starts to feel very long and played-out.
But on the whole the movie can't make anyone disappointed at all and it worth watching once for such a visual thriller had never been shot before.

V K Prakash has finally tried to bring something that is watchable. Comparing this with his previous work of Positive that starred Jayasuriya in the lead, this one is a lot better movie. The comedy sequences have been well handled.
The film is the malayalam remake of the Argentanian film Nueve Reinas. All the scenes right from the beginning of the movie has been shot exactly the same as the original.Things do change a bit. For instance, in Nueve Reinas, while the scampering is after some rare stamps called the Nine Queens, here the duo is in chase of a rare painting. Perhaps they felt that stamps might have sounded a bit too trivial for the audience down here. Kunjacko Bobban and Jayasuriya have handled their roles quite perfectly. The whole of the movie is localized in Kochi. There are some excellent shots of Kochi.
Suraj Venjarammoodu and Bijukkuttan, the members of the Anti-Terrorist squad are a delight to watch for those interested.
The songs of Gulumaal disappoint big time. It's more of cacophony that music as such, and it's a far cry from the usual V K Prakash films, when it comes to their picturisation as well.
Finally, its movie worth watching for those who likes gulumaals. Next time we can expect a lot better from VK Prakash.

Director Renjith has come with yet an other hit this time. A scintilarating movie that says the story of the murder of paleri Manickyam in a midnight.
Actor Mammooty appears as a private detective who has got a history of some proven cases. Haridas(Mammootty) reinvestigates the case of Manickyam, after 50 long years. Mammooty appears in three different roles in the film out of which the character Ahmed Haji, a landlord at the time of Manickyam is a notable one.
The year is 1957 and with the state witness to a political upheaval, a twenty year old girl is found hanging in front of her hut in a small hamlet by the name of Palery in North Kerala. Several decades after the accused have been let off scot-free by a local court, Haridas, a private detective (Mammootty) and Sarayu, a crime analyst (Gauri Manjal) join hands to probe into the crime again.
Palery Manickyam could easily boast of its remarkable cast that has none of the big names in business, barring a few. The film brings to the forefront a bevy of real talented actors from theatre, and resourcefully draws out astonishing performances from all of them. Leading this cast is none other than Mammootty himself who puts in a hypnotic act as Ahmed Haji, yet another pitch perfect feat from the actor this year. Equally proficient is the incomparable Shwetha Menon who is gradually carving a niche for herself with daring performances in markedly different films.

Ranjith's Manickyam is a rarity of a film that exceeds expectations and offers a psychedelic high for the viewer. There would be no surprise if it ignites some sort of a controversy for the boldness that it displays. For the discerning viewer though, this might perhaps be one of the best films to have come out this year.

I would refuse to attribute the art house flavour to it. Rather, it's an uncompromising film that grabs you by your throat and simply refuses to let go.

Among the bowling department, Ashish Nehra conceded 54 from his 4 overs. Kumar Sangakkara scored 78 of just 37 balls that took the game away from the Indians. India will be hoping for a win in the next match to level the 2 match series.
