Stonewashed Jeans - Fashion Forward Forever

By James Cameroone

People struggle with the appropriate look or fashion trend to settle with. And its no wonder, with artists like Gaga leading the way, the "bar" for what is fashionable seems to be constantly "adjusted" - I can't say whether it is rising or falling, but I know it is fluctuating! At any rate, luckily for me one thing has never gone out of fashion- stonewashed jeans ! I love them.

I have been a staunch supporter of stonewashed jeans since my days as a child in Brighton. I remember seeing the Rolling Stones for the first time in London and thinking to myself, "I'm never wearing anything but stonewashed jeans for the rest of my life." Mick was wearing what could easily be defined as the predecessor to the "hipster uniform" so prevalent in today's smelliest hipster neighborhoods like Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York, and Silver Lake in Los Angeles, California.

Black, skinny legged stonewashed jeans and a ripped tank top that looked like he had been purposefully spilling shit on for the three weeks prior. Hipsters rule! Wait, no they super blow. And stink like poop. But stonewashed jeans are the business, that I know for sure.

When I began the 9th grade in school, I was one of the few kids savvy enough to be stone washing my own jeans. Since I grew up in working class Brighton, most families didn't have enough money to outfit their children in stonewashed glory. Luckily being the go-getter youth I was, I learned how to stone wash jeans with a simple moisturizing and sanding process.

This process became so popular in Brighton that stonewashed jeans were initially referred to as "James-washed Jeans" in my region. Something about the alliteration always tickled their tummies I think. Because after that term died out, the more popular/longer standing term "Cameroone Crazy Crinkled" jeans became the more favored term. Those drunkards in Brighton love their alliteration!

So while fashion trends dip and doodle, I have only one strong suggestion- stick to your guns! If you feel comfortable and sexy and confident in a particular look, just keep refreshing that look to meet up with the trend of the times. That is why I LOVE stonewashed jeans, they are totally "my thing". There are so many different ways I can spin the look, whether business casual or rock and roll all night long, stonewashed jeans are incredibly versatile. I suggest you find your one true clothing necessity, then go from there. Once you have the anchor, everything else settles in to place.
