By now we should know that not every film is even half as interesting as its title. Thaskara Lahala does live up to its title in more ways than one. It does throw in a few petty thieves in lead roles. Secondly, and more importantly, throughout the entire film pandemonium reigns.
There are few films that lack a structural clarity as Thaskara Lahala. It starts off somewhere in a village called Kurukkamthara where four jobless men led by Manikantan (Suraj Venjarammoodu) stage plays as charity events. Their plans to marry off a poor young girl go haywire and they are forced to flee the village. They start living with their mentor Louis Aasan and indulge in some petty thefts to keep the money flowing in.
The kind of things that happen in this film are mind-boggling to say the least. A girl gets raped by a senior cop and ends her life. Along comes a reality show on the atrocities being committed against women, and a social activist demands that a women's police station be set up to solve the problems. The Home Minister is part of the show, and ta da! He agrees to the suggestion and in no time an all women police station is set up to put an end to all troubles faced by women in the state.
In the beginning of the film we see Varsha (Lekshmi Sharma) at Kurukkamthara where she loiters around Mani. And when Mani shifts to another town, lo and behold, she turns up at the place as a cop in the local police station. Quite a small world indeed.
Onscreen advertising isn't anything new, but when it's as brazen as the kind that happens here one can only gape in disbelief. What else would you say when you see a policeman pointing at a hoarding and lecturing his junior at length about the qualities of a fitness massage oil? Believe it or faint, there is a Swami and his assistant who treat impotence with a holy drug, that they tell us has ample doses of an energy capsule mixed in. More promotion is soon to come for hair fixing and what not.
I wish the makers of the film attributed us with brains the size of peanuts at least. That certainly isn't the case, because we get to see a man in dire need of medicines resorting to an amazing trick that has never ever been seen before. He ties two rods or something of the sort together; walks into the store pointing them here and there and proclaims that there is a bomb scare. The terrified pharmacist runs for his life, but not before handing over all the medicines in the prescription.
The climax involves some antique auction where crores of money are expected to come into play. And you have the Home Minister himself offering statues to the customers like a newbie salesman and uttering unmentionable blunders in the process. The scene soon degenerates further with every possible actor rushing in and bashing each other. Expected to raise some giggles, this is a scene which makes us wonder what is being manufactured under the guise of cinema these days.
Thaskara Lahala is as unfunny as it gets, and it could be quite embarrassing to attempt an in-depth analysis of the film. With no further ado, I refuse to comment any further on the acting, the scripting or the directing.

Rama Raavanan 2010 Malayalam Movie Review | Rama Ravanan Has A Confusing Script
Rama Ravanan is actually blessed with something that most films lack these days - a solid story that could make all the difference in film making. Based on Kamala Suraiyya's novel Manomi, the film attempts to sketch the life of a young Sinhalese girl who is a hapless victim, like millions of others, of the Srilankan Civil War.
Rama Ravanan starts off with a militant attack in Srilanka and soon shifts over to Indian, to a small village somewhere on the Kerala - Tamil Nadu border. A leading LTTE activist Thiruchelvam (Suresh Gopi) who has had a narrow escape from Lanka, takes refuge in the village in a deserted house. Lost in memories, Thiruchelvam remembers the few days that he had spent there years back.
The mansion isn't new, since he had been there once, planning a terrorist operation. Living nearby was Annadurai (Nedumudi Venu), a former resident of war ridden Lanka who had started life all afresh. Manomi (Mithra Kurien) who visits Annadurai after having lost her family in the war, happens to meet Thiruchelvam and within no time, love strikes. This is one such love that has to be headed towards doom, as Manomi soon realizes. Thiruchelvam leaves, spurning her love.
Time has passed since, and Thiruchelvam wonders where Manomi should be. The story does have an emotional depth that could move a few hearts, but the incoherence that has crept in, while transacting it on to the screen is quite distressing. This is why, the film doesn't move you as much as it should have, and at best it leaves you cold and a bit numb. The premise as such, demands several journeys back and forth time, and at times, it turns out to be extremely confusing.
My disappointment with the film is even greater, since I was really hoping that this film would work. So when the narrative appears incomprehensible, courtesy the jumbled writing, I was left wondering as to kind of difference a tighter script could have made to the whole film. The film does dwell on the futility of war and on a deeper level it should have made an attempt to explore personal conflicts as well. Because essentially Kamala tells the story of an ill destined love against the backdrop of a bloody battle.
The performances from the lead actors are even, but Lena in a brief role as an LTTE activist Malli, truly sparkles. Mithra does a respectable job of living up to the expectations associated with the author backed role. Suresh Gopi strangely seems to maintain a low profile through out.
Manomi as a story deserved a much better treatment than the one meted out to it in Rama Ravanan. As such it appears half baked, and makes you wish on several occasions, that a bit more vitality was injected into it which could have made it a simple tale, that was well told as well.

Sakudumbam Shyamala Malayalam Movie Review | Uruashi Once Again At Her Best
You might be a homemaker who dreams of being the Chief Minster, not just of your house, but of the state for a change. Do not lose heart if your plans don't seem to be working out brilliantly well; instead walk straight into a protest march in front of the Secretariat when the lathi charge by the police is on in full swing. Make sure to dodge the blows, settle yourself down in some comfortable corner where you are not likely to be trodden upon, and start tearing your saree and crying out at the top pf your voice.
For all you know, you might get branded as a living martyr and if a bit more lucky, you might even get to contest the next elections. Ask Shyamala (Urvasi), for she knows. She has been through the entire process and back.
'Sakudumbam Shyamala' directed by Radhakrishnan Mangalath and scripted by Krishna Poojappura talks of a woman who is at war with her brother (Nedumudi Venu), the Collector, living next door and who has two major aims in life. The first one to defeat the devil-next-door in all possible ways and the other one to ship her son (Kunchacko Boban) across to the US and get him married to the daughter of a rich NRI.
Shyamala often has nightmares, where she ends up beating up her brother. Her hubby (Saikumar) sleeping next to her often gets injured in the process. As destiny would have it, she runs into a local politician Pappan (Suraj) and a protest march that changes her life for ever. Believe it or not, she occupies prime time on TV as the survivor of police brutality and soon gets to contest the elections. And does she win? Yes.
Believability is what this film seriously lacks, and as for the jokes, there aren't many around that are worth laughing over. Most of the situations that the script comes up with are painfully silly, and it's quite unsatisfying dramatically as well. The comedy loses its punch with the contexts turning out to be increasingly lame, and the drama has lots of trouble getting its points across.
What is really embarrassing is the song picturisation. The dream sequence that has Shyamala and her family taking a tour around the world belongs to another era altogether. The make-believe effect might have been intentional, but it fails big time.
Urvasi is one of the few actresses who has been lucky enough to stage a worthy comeback, and get three of her films named after her character, be it 'Achuvinte Amma', 'Mummy & Me' or now 'Sakudumbam Shyamala'. She is tremendously good, even in this highly mediocre scenario, and the film would have fallen flat on its face, if it had been any other actor in her place. The mild chuckles that emanate here and there are thanks to this amazing actress. The rest of the cast are pretty good in their respective roles as well, and do whatever little they have to do with confidence.
It's sad to see such talent as that of Uravsi's being squandered on such one note characters. And it's a shame that our film makers bank merely on her comic flair instead of molding demanding characters worthy of the brilliant performer in her.

Avan 2010 Malayalam Movie Reviews | Avan - Same Old Stories Retold | Bala Vijay Yesudas
Avan progresses at a leisurely pace, and at two odd hours and a little more, often seems a tad too lengthy. It offers a pretty hollow experience that is low on real entertainment as well as the thrills, considering it's an action film that tries to be a musical drama as well.
Avan tells the story of Krishnan (Bala) who has had a terrible childhood and who grows up to be a criminal. Having run away from home while still a young boy, he nurtures fond memories of his childhood friend, who has always been a pillar of support. Now, in a bustling city, Krishnan has trodden on many a bloody path and has no qualms of taking lives. When he receives a new assignment of finishing off the career of a budding singer Ramanujam (Vijay Yesudas) he doesn't think twice until he realizes who Ramanujam actually is.
So what Avan does tell is a story that has been told a million times before; of those who live by the sword dying by the sword. The makers have tried to bring in that little bit of freshness into the plot by adding that musical element. I wouldn't say it succeeds much though.
The musical reality show Crime and Music is where Krishnan makes his grand confession. Music has been following him all his life, he says. Among the audience is an extremely enthusiastic spectator (Kottayam Nazir) who sheds tears on hearing Krishnan's story and decides that he wouldn't be part of the show ever again. The reason being that it's unbearable for him to sit through such tragic tales of loss.
Another scene that suffers from this dramatic exaggeration is the one which sees Balu (Vijayaraghavan) the local gangster passing away. Stretched to unimaginable lengths, the scene goes on and on, and yet fails to make you shed one drop of tear.
All that talk about Vijay Yesudas making his grand acting debut in the film remains just talk. For one, Vijay has done more of a cameo in the film and is barely there for a few scenes and a song. If you are wondering how good he would be in acting, I would say he gives us no reason to complain. Bala does a decent job and playing a goon finds himself in familiar territory. Riaz Khan is there in a sidekick role that nevertheless gets noticed. Muktha doesn't have anything significant to play and so does Thalaivasal Vijay.
The music of the film is quite hummable and of the several songs Thozha does stand out. It comes towards the climax, and as a song that tries to be a part of the story itself, it does deliver the goods.
At the end of it, Avan is a bit overwrought and wholly fails to move you. There is nothing intriguing in it that would send your pulses racing. The excitement is minimal and so is its emotional depth.

Advocate Lakshmanan Ladies Only Malayalam Movie Review | Advocate Lakshmanan A Mockery Of Cinema
Most of the scenarios that make up Advocate Lakshmanan: Ladies Only are crude, and the saddest thing about it is that its not even remotely as funny as it hopes to be. With the movie over, I would have been happy if there was at least a snappy one-liner that I could think of, but unfortunately that's not the case.
Mukesh plays Lakshmanan, a lawyer in the film who has earned for himself the Ladies only tag, because he specializes in divorce cases, and sees to it that justice is served as far as women are concerned. He has saved several hapless women from the clutches of their evil husbands, and once the divorce comes through, even offers them a job at his Ladies Only "Pickels" factory. Do not mind the spelling, for ultimately it's the tanginess of the Achar that matters.
Lakshmanan has several admirers among the fairer sex, and regularly receives calls from a woman he names Aradhika. Soon she reveals her identity before him, and it turns out that its none other than Annie (Mallika Kapoor), a lecturer at a local women's college. She is being stalked by an ex-lover Alex, she says, and Lakshmanan takes up the task of turning saviour once again.
This is a film that actually pooh poohs logic on the face, and doesn't care a bit about the continuity errors that creep in. For instance, Annie gets kidnapped and gives Lakshmanan a frantic call. The lawyer asks where she is and she looks out and says she can see the sea from her room. That's plenty of clues for identification and Lakshmanan reaches the place - the only place on the earth from where the sea could be seen - in no time.
That isn't much of an issue if you consider the fact that Lakshmanan talks to Annie from his house at the middle of the night with all the lights switched on. Cut to Annie speaking at the other end of the phone and we have broad sunlight streaming in through the windows. Surely Annie wasn't held captive somewhere across the continents?
Lakshmanan is no ordinary lawyer either. He must have been specially trained in kung-fu or the local kalari at least, as the villain's henchmen learn the hard way. He beats them up black and blue and gets married to Annie. And presto, as is the in-thing these days, arrives the twist in the tale. There are any number of scenes that astound you on account of their silliness. The climax is one such howler, when a whole new tale is cooked up to keep things rolling. On the whole it makes a mockery of both marriage and divorce, and ends up noisy and erratic to the core.
No prizes for guessing that the whole film has been conceptualized on very weak grounds, and there is little that Mukesh or Jagadeesh can do to make things look up. Mallika Kapoor could immediately get enrolled in some acting academy and get some urgent coching on mouth movements before attempting to utter Malayalam again.
There is very little that could be said about Advocate Lakshmanan: Ladies Only, except that it would remain forever a puzzle as to what actually were the intentions behind making this movie. It fails on all accounts, whether as a comedy or a suspenseful mystery and at more than two hours could turn out to be a real test of endurance.

A Review Of The Movie Lelam - Suresh Gopi's Lelam Wasn't Just A Power - Dialogue Movie | Lelam Malayalam Movie Reviews
Every malayalali may be well known with Anakkattil Chackochi and his father Anakkattil Eappachan. Guess who dont know them. 'Lelam' was a malayalam movie directed by Joshi in the early 99, in which M.G. Soman doned the role of Anakkattil Eappachan and Suresh Gopi played Chackochi.
The movie was a big hit with Suresh Gopi and Soman delivering powerful dialogues written by Renji Panicker. The movie highlighted the rivalry between the two main liquor mafias, one the Anakkattil, and the other, the 'Kadayadi's'. It was Eappachan's rule in that area in the liquor business, and every year there came a 'Lelam' for the business enterprise. It was thus, the movie was given the title 'Lelam'. The Kadayadis decides to kill Eappachan, and so they does. Son Chackochi at first doesn't knows the persons behind this murder, but later finds the people behind this and what happens then forms the crux of the story.
It is not the story of the movie, indeed it was a very simple one, told many times in many languages, but it's the way the movie was taken that makes it remarkable. There was sentiments, emotions, fights, dialogues, daring, friendship, and what not. Siddique and Maniyanpilla Raju played vital roles in the film that added to its strength. Siddique played the Chackochi's childhood friend who had once came to the Anakkattil house for food following his mother's demise, and Chackochi made him to join him. 'Hussain' was the character played by Siddique that still resides in the heart of the malayalali audience.
The movie's technical perfection was also good, credits to the director Joshi, who always takes care of technical perfection in all his films. The background music was good.
In all, its a very enjoyable movie in all aspects; whether it be from the point of view of entertainment or of values, it was a very refreshing movie that gives a good feel after watching it, though it is an action oriented film. It is heard that Renji Panicker is planning its sequel 'Anakkattil Chackochi' which may be produced by Suresh Gopi himself.

Vinayan's Yakshiyum Njanum - An Unearthly Love Story | Yakshiyum Njanum - Malayalam Movie is a Horror Experiment From Vinayan | Director Vinayan on Yakshiyum Njanum
Filmmaker Vinayan dares to be different. When directors tend to make movies with bankable stars, Vinayan enjoys working with new faces. In fact some of his films has been a launchpad for some and a shortcut to fame for others. A few of the actors who hit the lamelight through Vinayan's flicks on the big screen include Indrajith and Jayasuriya in 'Oomapenninu Uriyadappayyan', Guinness Pakru in 'Athbhutha Dweepu', Suresh Krishna in 'Karumadikkuttan', and Manikkuttan in 'Boyfriend'.
The directors film Yakshiyum Njanum which released on 30th, also stars new faces. The movie has late acror Rajan P Dev's son, Jubil Raj, playing Villain, Music Director Raveendran's son, Sajan Madhav, making his debut as music director, and introduces Meghna Nair, Gautham and Ricky in lead roles. Actor thilakan plays an astrologer in the movie. The new faces says Vinayan, were selected after an audition and acting workshop.
Says Vinayan, who has written the story, screenplay and dialogues: "I like working with newcomers as it is a challenge to mould them into the characters in the script. There is a sense of satisfaction when they bring these characters to life. Besides Mollywood needs new faces."
Yakshiyum Njanum has been shot on a red camera in and around Athirappally, Eranakulam, Kulathupuzha and Kuttaalam among other places by cinematographer Nawaz.
The director says that Yakshiyum Njanum is a horror love story. The story revolves around Shyam(played by Gautham) who takes the wrong path to keep his family afloat. While in hiding from the cops, he meets Athira (Meghna). He falls for her. It is only later that he discovers she is a'Yakshi'. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Coming up next for the director is a retelling of 'Ali Baba and the 40 theives' on screen and a movie 'on a freedom fighter'. he is also planning to remake 'Yaksiyum Njanum' in Telugu.

The movie has late acror Rajan P Dev's son, Jubil Raj, playing Villain, Music Director Raveendran's son, Sajan Madhav, making his debut as music director, and introduces Meghna Nair, Gautham and Ricky in lead roles. Actor thilakan plays an astrologer in the movie. The new faces says Vinayan, were selected after an audition and acting workshop.
Says Vinayan, who has written the story, screenplay and dialogues: "I like working with newcomers as it is a challenge to mould them into the characters in the script. There is a sense of satisfaction when they bring these characters to life. Besides Mollywood needs new faces."
Yakshiyum Njanum has been shot on a red camera in and around Athirappally, Eranakulam, Kulathupuzha and Kuttaalam among other places by cinematographer Nawaz.
The director says that Yakshiyum Njanum is a horror love story. The story revolves around Shyam(played by Gautham) who takes the wrong path to keep his family afloat. While in hiding from the cops, he meets Athira (Meghna). He falls for her. It is only later that he discovers she is a'Yakshi'. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Coming up next for the director is a retelling of 'Ali Baba and the 40 theives' on screen and a movie 'on a freedom fighter'. he is also planning to remake 'Yaksiyum Njanum' in Telugu.

V.M. Vinu's Pen Pattanam is a tale of four women living life on their own terms | Pen Pattanam Reviews
Malayalam cinema may have produced some of the finest women centric films in India, but their numbers have seen a drastic change in the last decade or so. Sadly, film like parinayam, Susanna, Innallenkil Nale, Kazhakam, Chakoram, Desadanakili Karayarilla, Adaminte Vaariellu, Perumazhakalam, Achuvinte Amma have become a rarity.
So, VM Vinu's Pen Pattanam, which opened yesterday, comes as a pleasant surprise as the film narrates the story of four women who refuse to be defeated by fate or circumstances. The film has raised expectations because it has been written by Renjith and scripted by TA Razzak. Surprisingly, the film has been made by a director who unbashedly celebrated the central male character in his films like Balettan, Bus Conductor, and Vesham.
Dismissing any claims of Pen Pattanam being an art house film or a celebration of feminism, Vinu says he made the film to prove wrong the popular perception that women are not as strong as men.

Apoorva Ragam Review | Apoorva Ragam - Malayalam Movie Worked Great!! | Sibi Malayil Back With A Bang !
Sibi Malayil, who has given us films like Thaniyavarthanam, Kireedam, Pranayavarnangal, His Highness Abdullah, Akashadoothu etc. has given the malayalam viewers one more film that could be held with these great films.
His films had redefined the Malayalam movies in 90s. Sibi is often associated with the legendary script writer Lohithadas who passed away last year. As they had a good rapport as director and writer, Sibi failed terribly after Lohithadas went on to direct his own films, which was not a great decision.
The director is back with his new film Apoorva Ragam which stars Asif Ali of Ritu, Nishan and Nithya Menon in the lead roles. Most of the remaining characters are also entrants.
Sibi tells a story of three youngsters, Roopesh, Nancy and Tommy. Three young hearts in love, and a tumultuous ride through their joys, their pains and frustrations.
Roopesh has always been in love with Nancy, but has never had the nerve to express it. For Nancy, love is something that is beyond words. And Tommy is the perfect Cupid, who would make things happen for these two.
The film has been taken in a very special way that keeps the viewer guessing as if what is going to happen next. The film has a thriller touch perfectly taken in the campus background. You must watch this for more. Of course, the acting level of the newcomers has not been so good. The film has many twists that adds to the thrill of the movie.
Vidyasagar has scored music. Camera is by Ajayan Vincent. GS Anand and Najeeb Koya write story and screenplay for this unusual love story. Dialogues are by AR Abhimanyu. The art direction is by Prasanth Madhav. The music is good.
This is a very refreshing movie. Comparable to the best films released in the past two years. A must watch!

Singer-Actor-Turned Writer/Director Vineeth Sreenivasan's maiden film is a must watch as the story of these five friends Prakashan, Praveen, Purushu, Santhosh and Kuttu really rocks. Its a film which narrates the friendship between these five, it makes you remember the friends in your life, it connects to your feelings, though not always.
The film has obviously some flaws as well. Sometimes the movie looks artificial and lacks the natural effect.
The main problem with the film is that though music plays quite an important role in the story, it turns out to be the weakest link as well. The script never really takes the viewer along with its flow and looks fractured with cooked up situations, boring comedy and dramatic dialogues, in the absence of a solid storyline.
Of course, the film has its moments and the honesty with which the debutant director has made his film is to be seen at times. Certain scenes and the climax have evidently been inspired from the 2008 Bollywood hit, Rock On!!.

It is conveyed through little actions with background music to give the right effects. One of them has to go for a singing competition and on the way the jeep tyre get punctured. The other four send him to a shed while they fix the tyre. A pretty normal action, yes. But these small things which we see our friends do for us without stopping to think about the little inconveniences tie us to a bond closer than we imagine. If we stop to evaluate the friendships we hold on to dearly, none of it may have stories of deep sacrifices or teary pictures to reveal. But you know that when you are down in the dumps, they are the first to turn to.
The presence of senior actors like Jagathy Sreekumar, Nedumudi Venu, and Suraj adds to the strength of the film. If you go to the theatres not with that much expectations, it will be refreshing film for you.
One thing is clear, Vineeth Sreenivasan has a long way to go. He is a real talented singer, and now has proved his talent in driection and writing.

Anwar - Amal Neerad Handles Script More Cautiously This Time |Anwar Malayalam Movie Preview
'Anwar' is a film being directed by Amal Neerad, one of the most stylish directors Malluwood has seen till date. With a spectacualr debut in 'Big B', Amal had also made 'sagar Alias Jackey' that was more of a style statement.
Having received much criticism for his second film, Amal treads on the new grounds for his third film very cautiously. This time the subject that he deals with is quite touchy; nothing less than terrorism.
Amal assures us that though the film is based on terrorism, it will be quite different from the other films in the genre. Having learned his lessons on scripting, this time Amal would script the story himself along with R Unni who had scripted Big B.
The movie presents an interesting debate before us as to what is right and what is wrong, and whether one man's right could be another man's wrong.
Prithviraj plays the lead role in the film, that of a Muslim youngster who is lured by the ideas of radicalism. Mamta Mohandas plays his female lead. Prakash Raj and Lal also do key roles.
Debutant cameraman Satheesh Kurup will wield the camera, while Gopi Sundar will compose the music for this film.
'Anwar' is produced by Rajesh Zacharias under the banner of Red Carpet Films. It has been shot on locations in and around Kochi.

Vande Mataram - Expectations Mounts - Movie All set to be Released on 16th July
Megastar Mammooty and Tamil action hero Arjun join hands together for a dynamic action thriller titled 'Vande Mataram'. The film is all set to be released on 16th of July after the dispute in the industry ended on a compromise.
Vande Mataram has been directed by T. Aravind and tells the story of officers who embark on a terrorist hunt. Mammootty who has done umpteen investigating officer roles, gets to play an officer in the Intelligence Bureau while Arjun plays a Superintendent of Police.
Gopi Krishnan played by Mammootty, Southern zone command director of the Intelligence bureau, is assigned the task of tracing the plans of a terrorist group led by Malik who has already found his way into the country. Anwar Hussain played by Arjun, who joins Gopi on deputation from the State police. Together, they launch Operation Malik to track down the deadly terrorists and thereby save their motherland.
Sneha plays the female lead as a pilot and wife of Gopi Krishnan and there is also Sharadha Arya who plays an ornithologist who falls in love with Arjun. The film introduces a new villain - Deepak J.D. Jagadish, Jai Akash, Riyaz Khan, Vijay Kumar, Rajan P. Dev, Raj Kapoor and Mumtaj would be seen i supporting roles.

Nalla Pattukare - Pathetic! | Nalla Pattukare Malayalam Movie Review
I simply wish Najeem Arshad had declined this offer to act. He's a young singer whom I have always admired, but to see him being relegated to an insipid role of a rich brat moving around pawing girls in 'Nalla Paattukare', was nothing but offensive.
The grave error that this film commits to those who have watched ISS is that you get to see those gifted singers whom you thought had oodles of talent move around like androids uttering unimaginably ridiculous dialogues. Imran cashes in on his weight for the role and they throw in an elephant on screen every time he walks in, for that extra effect.

For one, the set looks like a shady joint, and the audience of the show looks like they have been brought there on gun point. And guess what? Irrespective of whoever is performing, you see all of them singing and dancing on stage. Nallavan, Malayalam Movie starring Jayasuriya was released in the theatres days ago. The film did not came upto the expectation and has no new things to offer. The film is really well shot, stunning visuals which reminds us of the tamil movies Subramaniapuram and Nadodikal. The film claims to be a touching love story but the audience were not able to feel the 'love' in the film. The film lacks substance and elements.
Kocherukkan (Jayasurya) and Malli (Maithili) have grown up together, and as two orphans who have been abandoned at two rich households in neighboring villages, their only delight in life is the midnight film show for which they sneak out together once every month. Obviously, they are in love, and where there is love there has to be hurdles. The hurdle in this case takes the form of a big burly policeman Kumaresan (Siddiq) who almost loses an eye to Kocherukkan's attack, as the couple tries to elope.
The movie has been released along with Mohanlal starrer 'Oru Naal Varum'. The failure of Oru Naal Varum will really help Nallavan in all means, but with Mammooty's Vande Mataram releasing on 16th July, this movie is in a stake. But of course, the movie is a one- time - watchable movie since it stars big names such as Saikumar, Shammi Thilakan, Suraj, Salimkumar, Maniyanpilla Raju along with Jayasuriya and Mythili.

Oru Naal Varum : Malayalam Latest Movie Review | Oru Naal Varum Malayalam Review | Oru Naal Varum Verdict : Average
Oru Naal Varum, directed by T. K Rajeev Kumar, and scripted by Sreenivasan, starring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan in the lead roles has finally hit the theatres yesterday. The film is a an average watchable movie according to the sources. First day response was 100% housefull.
Mohanlal plays Sukumaran who approaches Gopalakrishnan (Sreenivasan) for the approval of building a house. Gopalakrishnan is a corrupt officer who accepts bribes from almost everybody and does the same from Sukumaran. Gopalakrishnan has big dreams for his daughter to get an admission for medicine and so accepts bribes to make money.
There are instances in the movie that reminds of the great pair on the screen years before. In all fairness, there are some really nice elements in the story and Sreenivasan has smartly woven it all into a decent script, which makes the movie a watchable one. But the problem here is that, it never goes beyond a superficial level with the story of a corrupt system being limited to a few characters.
The narrative could have been more interesting if the director had gone for a more stylish or a modern presentation, but no such luck here. The strength of the story is some surprising twists in the tale but too many of them make it a tad boring after a while.
MG Sreekumar's music is fine and the song 'padan ninakkoru' is hummable.
Sameera Reddy plays Mohanlal's wife who suits a petition for divorce. She looks wooden most of the times, perhaps her character is moulded in that way and she has done it nicely. Devayani has to do a very dumb character as wife of Sreenivasan and has done well.
In all, the movie is a good one if we consider the acting level of the casts. But acting alone can't do all. The main problem is the second half of the movie, may be it has been made very bad, even worse. The first half of the movie is a real pleasure to watch where Mohanlal has done a very superb performance. But considering other movies that are released in these days, the movie will surely run for over 60 days.

Description of the movie
Mukundan Menon (Jayaram) runs a magazine called Kerala Today. He is a normal husband who loves his wife Krishnendu (Bhavana) a lot, but she is too possessive about him. She thinks he is not very expressive about his feelings, and is always worried that he might one day fall for some other beautiful girl.
Rahul (Indrajith) is just the opposite. He is extremely romantic and never comes home without some cute gifts for his wife, Shreya (Samvrutha Sunil). But she doesn't know that, behind her back, her darling husband is dying to flirt with every woman that he sees.
John Mathai (Jayasurya) is a photographer in Mukundan's publication. He was not too keen to get married until he met Sereena (Vandana).
It is into the lives of these three couples that a bar singer, Diana (Rima Kallingal), arrives and things take some interesting turns.

Prithviraj, with the confidence of being proclaimed a star with a couple of solo hits last year tries to further consolidate his position in the constellation of stars. Writer T A Shahid has come out with a story that is woven around his character.
Kochukunju (Prithviraj), a scion of Vadakkan Veettil Tharavadu is a 'good for nothing fellow' always in an inebriated state and picking up fights with all and sundry.
There are other familiar facts about such a character; the missing father, wronged in childhood and above all a teary-eyed mother suffering silently because of the wayward lifestyle of her son. He is a thorn in eye of the other members of the extended family as he is only blemish in the otherwise illustrious bloodline.

Ringtone Malayalam Movie Review | Latest Malayalam Movie Ringtone Reviews
In Ringtone, Bala plays Krishna, a man on the run, after being wanted for beating up a policeman. Soon joining him is Meera (Megha) a girl with a mysterious past. And hot on their heels in Nainan Koshy (Suresh Gopi) who has been put in charge of investigating a few cyanide deaths in Tamil Nadu.
The logical loopholes in the film are large enough for us to fall through. If you watch the tear gas scene at the beginning you might even think tear gassing is fun; a few coughs here and there, and people waking away with not even a drop of tear from their eyes.
There is another scene later when a hospital help rushes in and announces that there is a bomb scare and the police officer much to our surprise grabs the poor man by the throat and shouts at his followers to 'take him'!
What do we say about the climax? With a bomb strapped to her waist, the girl jumps off a cliff, and flies through the air for some time before perching comfortably on a tree down below. And then something else happens, that I would not dare mention here. You need to watch it yourself to believe it.
Strange are the twists of life indeed. I mean, you have a name like Krishna, and in your attempts to run away, you climb atop a truck and lo along with the buffaloes having a peaceful journey you find a girl named Meera.
The film from what I could understand is based in some village in Tamil Nadu, but the Tamil that every character utters in the film be it a Tamilian or Malayali is atrocious. So is the English. And the Malayalam.
It would have been nice if we could get some idea as to what Suresh Gopi was doing in the film. Yeah, he's a cop for sure, and what does he do? He's seen jumping around in some jungle supposedly in Andhra Pradesh with an all Malayali team, making life hell for the terrorists. Soon he's on his way to Kerala to hunt down Krishna, and on the way happens to stay at the village in Tamil Nadu where Krishna is hiding. Naturally he meets Krishna there and things become much easier for him.
The songs of the film match up to the rest of the mood of the film. They are noisy to the point of being ear splitting, and the lyrics are unmentionable. The background music is deafening as well, and it escapes me why they have to shout some rap songs at the top of their voices when the officer is having a look around a crime scene and quietly tossing around a pot that has been left behind.
I didn't understand why they have named this film Ringtone. But then I didn't understand much of what happened in the film either.
